Sobre a JBATS

The Brazilian Air Transportation Research Society – SBTA – is an independent scientific society that holds the end of stimulating and leveraging the scientific and technical production in the Air Transportation field. It is oriented by the vision and by the necessities of the Brazilian researchers in this area, which have the important mission of contributing to the organization of such an essential activity for Brazil.

Brazil brings together points that make it, by itself, an important scenario in the world Air Transportation. Here, the commercial aviation has been finding creative manners to include more and more shares of the population in its flights, and the executive aviation is one of the most profuse of the world. In addition to all of that, the continental dimensions of Brazil, and its importance in Latin America, create unique possibilities of study and implementation of old and new concepts of Air Transportation, which can be used as reference to the entire world.

SBTA covers more than 300 professionals, present in a virtual network spanned through several countries. This allows a panoramic observation of the Air Transportation field, with the experience and the endorsement of professionals allocated in the main research centers of the world.  This panoramic view is the main justification of the existence of SBTA and of this Journal.

In accordance with the firm consensus of the associates in its last general assembly, the Journal of the Brazilian Air Transportation Research Society - JBATS is being launched as a means of promoting the synergy between the academic and technological environments, together with the market, in such a way to impulse the continuous movement in all the research / developing / market circuit, fundamental to the progress of the Nation. This Journal JBATS is a half-yearly publication produced by SBTA.

SBTA has arisen from the need of updating and discussion about the main questions related to the Air Transportation. Among them, it can be mentioned the crises in the airlines sector, the reflection about the regulation and the competition among companies, the influence of national and political interests, the terrorism and the constant quest for new technologies.

Among the initiatives of SBTA, we can give relief to the realization of the Symposium on Air Transportation (SITRAER). SBTA has relied on the Internet, since 2001 until today, as the main communication and integration channel for its collaborators. Through the Internet, the email discussion list was used as important information source, and vehicle for debates about pretty diverse matters in Air Transportation. With a frequency of more than 200 messages per month, professionals and researchers update, exchange, and argue information, and can catalyze their researches.  The expectation of SBTA organizers is that the Society becomes a reference in the Brazilian Air Transportation and, in this sense, the launch of the Journal JBATS is one of the most important milestones.

SBTA has relation with researchers of other countries through the global Air Transportation Research Society – ATRS World. Currently, SBTA is chapter of ATRS in Brazil, and actively participates of its annual world meetings. ATRS is recognized by most of the people involved in the Aviation and Air Transportation in the world, and has it headquarters in the British Columbia University, Canada.

The initiative of the Journal JBATS, in the molds in which was conceived, has no similar in Brazil, and it was not found other publication with the same purposes, the same knowledge profile, and with the same target audience, represented by the associates of SBTA. Its Managing Board understands that SBTA is only a little sample of a vast legion of professionals, specialists and fans of Air Transportation and, by this fact, promotes the divulgation of the Journal in diverse environments related to its content.
